About
Built to help families — not to scare them.
Scams thrive on secrecy, urgency, and shame. ScamCapital is the opposite: a calm, clear place to look things up, learn the patterns, and know what to do — so you can protect the people you love.
What this is
ScamCapital is a free, independent resource. We keep a searchable directory of reported scams, publish plain-language guides, and give you a simple way to report something and warn your neighbors. No jargon, no fear-mongering, no login required.
Why we made it
Almost everyone has a parent, grandparent, or neighbor who's been targeted. The information that could have helped them is usually buried in dense government pages or scattered across the internet. We wanted one place you'd feel good about sharing in a family group chat or a Nextdoor thread.
How a scam becomes a listing
- 1
Someone reports it
A reader sends in a scam they ran into — a text, a call, an email, or a near-miss.
- 2
We review it
We remove any private details and check the story against public scam records.
- 3
We write it plainly
We describe how the scam works, the warning signs, and what to do, in everyday language.
- 4
We publish and link the source
The entry goes in the directory with a link back to a public source.
Staying independent
ScamCapital is reader-first and free. To keep it running, we sometimes recommend tools we genuinely use and trust — things like a VPN, private email, or a password manager. ScamCapital is free to use. Some links to tools we recommend are referral links — if you sign up, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend tools we'd hand to our own family.
We only recommend something if we'd put it in front of our own family, and our guides will always tell you the free option first.
Corrections & takedowns
If something here is inaccurate, or you believe an entry should be changed or removed, email contact@scamcapital.com and we'll respond.
One important note: ScamCapital is an independent resource. We are not a government agency and we don't speak for one. For official reporting, we'll always point you to the FTC ↗ and other official channels.
